On Sunday, July 30, 2006,
from 3PM-5PM, master trombonist, Phil Ranelin, who was awarded “Best
Jazz Artist of 2005” at the L.A. Weekly Music Awards, will perform a duo set
with bassist Wendell Williams at the closing of fine artist Bernard Stanley
Hoyes’ solo exhibition on Downtown's Gallery Row at the trailblazing 626
Gallery which prides itself on showcasing great local diverse artists of
international acclaim. The 626 Gallery is located at 626 South Spring
Street, Los Angeles, CA 90014, (213) 614-8872. This event is free and open
to the public and community arts activist, Dalili Pierson, will moderate an
artists’ panel organized by Hoyes.
This duo performance is the
first of Phil Ranelin’s summer performances after undergoing a rigid
rehabilitation regime to get back on his feet after a tragic car accident in
November 2005 which almost claimed his right leg and which left him with
nuts, bolts, screws and plates holding his leg together. The Phil Ranelin
Quartet will perform at Café Metropol also located in the Downtown
Artist District on August 2nd from 7-9PM and at The Crown Plaza
LAX Hotel on August 3rd from 6-10PM. For more information,
